Sensory motor activities are also used to increase focus, alertness level, and attention span for writing. Low tech to high tech tools will be used, with an emphasis on selecting the most beneficial applications.

Occupational Therapy

Maple Valley Pediatric Therapy offers Occupational Therapy services. We specialize in working with children, teens and young adults.

Do you have a child who could use extra help to develop gross and fine motor skills, balance, strength, coordination, self-help skills, or handwriting?

Does your child under or over-respond to sensory experiences, clothing or food textures, grooming, movement, sounds?

Does your child need a great deal of support and structure to make changes/transitions or to self-regulate or calm?

Does your child appear anxious, fearful, withdrawn or stressed?

Would you like to learn ways to bond and communicate with your infant or child with special needs?

As a parent, could you use a little time for yourself to relax, renew, and rejuvenate?

“OT has given my child the tools to be aware of her emotions and self regulate when needed!”

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy is a skilled treatment method used by occupational and physical therapists to increase a child’s functional abilities.  The water’s therapeutic properties of warmth, buoyancy and resistance, combine to create a powerful experience for any child.  Aquatic therapy is an effective and fun way to address many types of conditions including sensory integration, anxiety, neurological disorders, and orthopedic issues. Children with a broad range of abilities and diagnoses can benefit.

Some benefits of aquatic therapy include:

  • Gentle resistance to increase strength and endurance
  • Enhances sensory feedback
  • Supports muscles while working on balance or posture
  • Low impact on joints
  • Stimulates language, eye contact, and communication
  • Increases confidence and builds safety awareness
  • The warm environment can help increase relaxation
  • Motivating for many children to work on activities that are difficult
  • Great for working on oral motor skills and breath control
  • Opportunity for social interaction

“N absolutely loves aquatic therapy! He has had swimming lessons in the past but they were always much too distracting with the loud noises of so many classes going on simultaneously on top of having to wait for all the other kids in his group to have a turn. On his first day in the pool with the OT and lifeguard; I already noticed an increase in his eye contact and attention! I am so happy for him to have this wonderful opportunity in such a sensory rich surrounding.”
